Family Storytime

Pro-D Day: Stuffed Animal Storytime and Sleepover

Where: Greater Victoria Public Library Esquimalt Branch

For ages 4-6. Bring your favourite stuffed animal to the library for a storytime, then leave the stuffie at the library for a sleepover. We’ll have cameras set up to record any monkey business. Return the following day after 1:00 pm to pick up your furry friend and see the pictures. Registration begins January 2.

Family Day Weekend in Sidney — 100 Boxes

A Room Full of Boxes.  Just Boxes. Little ones, big ones, lots of all sorts; For tunnels and towers and building a fort; Come play and have fun, there's tons you can do; With a box you can say you're in a canoe; Or driving a car or flying a plane!; Then pile the boxes and build them again! (Mom and Dad can play with them too!)

Rogers Hometown Hockey at CFB Esquimalt

Rogers Hometown Hockey makes its way to CFB Esquimalt on February 16 and 17 at the Wurtele Arena. Expect a great weekend of FREE hockey-related activities, NHL Alumni appearances, music, and fun for the whole family! Join Ron MacLean and Tara Slone LIVE on site on Sunday, February 17th for the Support Our Troops broadcast as they tell the stories that celebrate the hockey history and culture that put Esquimalt on Canada's hockey map, and stick around to catch the Montreal Canadiens take on the Florida Panthers.

Family Fun Hike - Guided Walk – 8 years+

Enjoy a walk in the park with your family to celebrate Family Day weekend! Join a CRD Regional Parks naturalist and discover the beauty of this wooded parkland. Bring a snack and water, and wear sturdy footwear. Try to arrive 10 minutes before the start of your program. Meet at the kiosk in the Aylard Farm parking lot off Beecher Bay Road. Family Day Weekend in Sidney — LEGO Scavenger Hunt

Pick-up your LEGO treasure map at the Sidney Museum and enjoy exploring Sidney and checking out the LEGO exhibits displayed at various locations around town. When you have completed your map, bring it back to the Sidney Museum and enter to win one of several LEGO prizes! First prize is a Star Wars set: “First Order Heavy Assault Walker,” and standing at over 13” high, this fearsome walker consists of 1,300 pieces.

Family Day At The Royal BC Museum

Free admission all day! On Family Day 2019, join us for a Learning Centre Design Playdate from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. The Royal BC Museum is in the process of developing an inclusive learning centre, a hub for learning and sharing for museum visitors of all ages. Drop in to playfully test out ideas for programming and contribute your thoughts and ideas on how to create a centre that feels relevant and exciting for your family, or take the opportunity to be among the first to enjoy the Wildlife Photographer of the Year feature exhibition. Visit the Natural History Gallery and take a selfie with the classic dioramas. Head to the First Peoples Gallery and deepen your understanding of the cultural traditions of Indigenous peoples of BC. Or stroll through the Becoming BC Gallery and reacquaint yourself with the little details of the museum that you always loved as a child.

Family Day At The Market

Family Arts Festival

Where: Cedar Hill Recreation Centre, 3220 Cedar Hill Rd.

This free family event is a celebration of imagination, creativity and discovery. Kids of all ages will enjoy a wide variety of activities led by Arts Centre staff and guests from Greater Victoria’s arts community, including Chinese dance, a magic show, Lekwungen traditional dancers, and more. Explore the world of visual arts, dance, music and theatre through hands-on stations and performances.

Family Day Weekend in Sidney — Annual LEGO Exhibit

Where: Sidney Museum, 2423 Beacon Ave., Sidney

The creative force has arrived at the Sidney Museum with our newest presentation of the ever-popular Lego Exhibition celebrating over 60 years of Lego imagination. Dozens of Star Wars themed Lego models provide a special focus for this exciting exhibit, rounded out by hundreds of other Lego models including Hogwarts Castle and Lego model of the Bugatti Chiron automobile. Our guests will learn about the history of the many Lego models on display, a special opportunity to guess how many bricks comprise the giant Lego Pyramid as well as the opportunity to enjoy the special presentation film on the origin and development of the Lego building system.

PD Day Camp: All Aboard! Ship Life

Come and spend the day off school at the Maritime Museum of BC learning all about life on board a ship! Join in while we learn about shipbuilding, navigating using a compass, and do some ship-themed art. Our Pro-D Day Camp runs from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm on Friday, February 15th and is for children ages 6-11. Space is limited to 10 children, so register early! Although snacks are included, lunch is not. Please ensure your child comes with a packed lunch. Some activities will be outdoors. Weather-appropriate attire is required.

Throughout Family Day weekend immerse yourself in the vast diversity of Salish Sea species through exciting hands-on all-day programming. On Friday, February 15 (an all-district Pro-D day), the Centre hosts their annual Watershed Wonders event with special guests, new games and engaging experiments.

Join us as we explore Victoria’s Inner Harbour and discover more about BC’s maritime heritage and culture! The tour starts at the Maritime Museum of BC and go around the Inner Harbour, up Wharf St., through Bastion Square, down Government Street, and back to the Museum. It runs for about an hour and includes admission to the museum.

Our popular workshop is back! Spruce up your wardrobe this winter by accessorizing with sea glass - also known as "mermaid tears"! Create your own sea glass necklace, bracelet, earrings, or other one-of-a-kind jewelry at the Maritime Museum of British Columbia. Using locally sourced material, our workshop leader will guide you through the process, connecting each piece to stories and histories of local areas around Vancouver Island. Ticket includes admission to the Maritime Museum of BC (valid for 24 hours). This workshop is limited to a maximum of 10 participants each.

Family Day Weekend in Sidney — 6-foot LEGO Build & Interactive LEGO Mosaic Build

Join Canada’s only professional LEGO builder, Robin Sather, for two full days of LEGO fun. He will interact with kids and adults alike, answering questions, explaining the dynamic process of planning and building a giant LEGO creation. This giant model will feature the 1900’s “Cordwood Express” from the V&S Railway. Help build a massive LEGO mosaic sponsored by Peninsula Co-Op. Participants will each build a small section to contribute to the much larger colourful creation.
